For centuries, the devout have made pilgrimage along the life path of Lord Buddha. Present-day Nepal is the country of his birth, and for this reason we land in Kathmandu to begin retracing his steps. Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, lies in southern Nepal near the Indian border. From this initial landmark in the chronology of Buddha's life we drive into India to visit the final location of his earthly existence, Kushinagar, the site of his death. On the banks of the holy Ganges at Varanasi, we walk among Hindu pilgrims as they offer salutations to the Sun God and wash away their sin in waters originating in the high Himalaya. Just outside of town, Buddha delivered his first sermon in Sarnath, circa 500 B.C. We continue to Bodhgaya, where Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree and to Rajgir, where he delivered many famous sermons. Join us for this "enlightening" introduction to the physical milieu of a teacher whose lessons inspire and guide so many followers worldwide.
